PLAY, THE BLACK MAN, WRITTEN BY: ANDRE PITRE & CHARNELE BROWN, BRINGS CLARITY TO THE VOICE OF THE BLACK MAN

 

THE BLACK MAN, A PLAY FROM THE BLACK MAN'S PERSPECTIVE

When I received the message from Charnele Brown that her production company was Premiering a new play here in Houston called, The Black Man, I initially invited a group of people out for support. But what I come to learn while attending this production is that this play is actually very much needed among black men, the community and anyone interested in the story of a black man. 

 

Andre Pitre is a native of Beaumont Tx. Also an actor, singer. and amongst many other titles, a black man. Within this 90 minute show, he was able to bring forth powerful stories of men who we all have dated, loved and even birthed.

 

Joining with Actress, Star and Black Woman, Charnelle Brown, who played the role as the therapist of multiple black men who apparently were broken or struggling with pain in some form. they brilliantly produced a show that was not focused on a large cast, but rather a large message. 

There was the Thug, Celebrity, Wealthy and even a Pastor came through. All different stories to tell but the same pain. Hurt. Emptiness and Unheard. 

As he closed out the play, he, Charnele and the audience was brought to tears as the vibration of pain rang through the building.  Once the show ended, Mr. Pitre opened the floor to commentators who were excited and inspired to be able to witness greatness at it's beginning stages. 

To be fair,  I will say that this is not your standard play. You will definitely get multiple characters but from what we saw, all characters were played by the same person. Which was genius in a way to get the message out and the conversation started. 

I would love to see more and from the close out speech, we should all be expecting to see more as time passes.  The main take away that I was able to receive is that we should all make sure we are checking on the Black Man.
